Australian premiere of Wonderful Town

Artistic collaboration between the University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Festival Opera will see the concert version of Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town performed in Australia for the first time.

Artistic collaboration between the University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Festival Opera will see the concert version of Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town performed in Australia for the first time.

Wonderful Town - Bernstein's own concert version of the hit stage comedy My Sister Eileen - will feature University staff, students and graduates and the award winning University of Newcastle Chamber Choir.

Conductor Mr Ian Cook said bringing the production to Australia was the result of a great partnership with Newcastle Festival Opera and the community.

"Newcastle audiences will be treated to an exhilarating, toe-tapping concert piece that features congas, rags, ballads and all the rhythms of the United States," Mr Cook said.

Wonderful Town will run in the Harold Lobb Concert Hall, at the University of Newcastle's Conservatorium, on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 March at 8pm and Sunday 16 March at 3pm.

Tickets are available from Ticketek on 02 4929 1977 (prices range from $20 - $36).
