University staff receive Australia Day honours
Two University of Newcastle staff have been honoured in the 2008 Australia Day Awards.
Dr Joe Herbertson has been appointed a Member in the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to the environment through the development and promotion of sustainable resource processing.
Dr Herbertson is a Conjoint Professor with the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment and Board Member of the Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment.
Dr Robert Sillar has been awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to medicine.
Dr Sillar is a practitioner and educator in the field of surgical oncology and melanoma and has undertaken humanitarian surgical aid overseas on a pro bono basis.
He is currently a lecturer in the School of Medicine and Public Health in the Faculty of Health.
