Open Foundation by Distance - Representatives visit Port Macquarie

Thursday 25 October 2007

Representatives from one of the University of Newcastle's highly successful tertiary preparation courses will be in Port Macquarie tomorrow to provide information on Open Foundation by Distance for study in 2008.

Open Foundation by Distance is a one-year part-time tertiary preparation course for people over the age of 20 which provides a qualification that can be used to gain entry into university. Open Foundation by Distance allows students to complete the course without having to attend classes on campus.

Deputy Director of the University's English Language and Foundation Studies Centre, Dr Keryl Kavanagh, said Open Foundation was the ideal program for people considering a career change or who wanted to study at university but did not have the entry qualification. "Open Foundation helps people develop the skills needed for successful study at a tertiary level," Dr Kavanagh said.

"The University of Newcastle is a leader in providing pathways to tertiary education, and in the 30-plus years we've been offering Open Foundation we've helped thousands of people make the transition to university study."

Open Foundation representatives will be available from 10am-4pm on Friday 26 October 2007 at Port Central Shopping Centre, Horton Street, Port Macquarie.
