Critically acclaimed artist and Masters of Fine Art (Photography) student Alexia Sinclair has added to her impressive list of accolades by taking out the National Tertiary Art Prize in the Photography/Photomedia/Electronic Media category.

Sinclair won the award for 'Elizabeth 1 - the virgin queen', a work from her award-winning 'The Regal Twelve' suite of pictures depicting historical females who have ruled their kingdoms.

'The Regal Twelve' combines photography, illustrations, European backdrops, fashion models, historical treasures and symbolic references, digitally montaged to create works based on historical truths.

Sinclair said winning the National Tertiary Art Prize was a honour.

"To be recognised, not only for my hard work towards my Masters and intense devotion to art-making, but also for the standard of my work is incredibly satisfying," she said.

"This series started when I won the inaugural Jennie Thomas Travelling Art Scholarship in 2003 through the University of Newcastle's Honours program.

"What followed was a challenging journey filled with blood, sweat and tears as I pushed myself to continue to evolve as an artist.

"I am most thankful for the continued support of the Fine Art industry as well as those who have recognised and supported my talents for so many years."

Earlier this year Sinclair won the inaugural Harpers BAZAAR and Canon fashion photography award for 'The Regal Twelve' series.

Sinclair works as a freelance fine art photographer and digital artist on commercial campaigns and fine art commissions in Australia and overseas.

In its 15th year, the National Tertiary Art Prize is the primary student art competition in Australia, and is run by the Australasian Association of Campus Activities.
