Local researcher awarded Churchill Fellowship

Central Coast-based researcher Dr Anton Kriz has been awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to extend his work on doing business in China.

Dr Kriz's previous doctoral research looked at business to business relationships and trust, and its impact on foreign companies looking to invest in China.

While doing this research, he identified important implications of regional variations in business relationships in China that are generally not well understood outside the Chinese business community.

Dr Kriz said the Fellowship would allow him to travel to China to further his research.

"Being awarded the Churchill Fellowship is a real honour, and it provides the financial support I need to build on my previous research," he said.

"I will spend eight weeks in China in 2008 conducting interviews in eight different strategic regions and in the process I will be able to investigate a range of aspects related to those specific markets."

"I have also found there is a move to invest in what they are calling second and third tier cities in China, so this research is extremely timely".

Dr Kriz plans to look at these key regional variations in China with a view to helping inform foreign companies on how to address such issues if they are considering investing in the Chinese market.

The Australian-based Churchill Trust was established in 1965 in memory of Sir Winston Churchill. Each year the Trust awards Churchill Fellowships to provide financial support for researchers to travel overseas to undertake analysis, study or investigation of a project or issue that cannot be easily undertaken in Australia.
