History Week

The University of Newcastle is celebrating History Week with an exhibition titled Dissent and Disorder: Policing the Great Depression.

The University of Newcastle is celebrating History Week with an exhibition titled Dissent and Disorder: Policing the Great Depression.

Curated by History lecturer Dr Victoria Haskins, and students Jessica Nicholls and Laura Jardine, the exhibition focuses on the Tighes Hill anti-eviction riots in 1932.

The exhibition will be officially opened at the lock-up, 90 Hunter Street, Newcastle at 6pm on Wednesday 19 September. Following the opening, there will be a public lecture by Mr Caleb Williams, Curator of the Justice and Police Museum, with local historian Ms Vera Deacon. Media welcome to attend.

History Week runs until Sunday 23 September.
