The University of Newcastle is offering HSC students a helping hand with their studies, and the opportunity to gain new perspectives on their subjects, through a series of workshops next month.
The HSC PREP Days give students subject-specific advice, useful study strategies, tips for subject assessments, exam techniques, and stress management advice.
Sessions will be held at the Newcastle and Central Coast campuses of the University of Newcastle, and students can book online at www.newcastle.edu.au/hsc .
Pro Vice-Chancellor, Corporate Development and Community Partnerships, Associate Professor Martin Fitzgerald, said HSC PREP Days would complement the work done in NSW High Schools, and provide students with an edge at exam time.
"HSC PREP sessions will give students a much-needed motivational boost, a broader perspective and added confidence as they head into the exam period," Associate Professor Fitzgerald said.
"The specific subject sessions, run by experienced high school teachers, HSC markers and university experts, focus on how best to address the HSC exam.
"Gaining a different point of view or experiencing a topic presented in an entirely different way can make an amazing difference to a Year 12 student's understanding of a subject.
"The feedback from HSC PREP days over the years has been extremely positive, and the University of Newcastle is pleased to help contribute to the success of HSC students across NSW."
Subjects to be covered in the workshops include English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, and Music. Additional sessions will be held on exam techniques, stress management and time management.
Sessions will be held at the following times and locations:
- Friday 14 September 2007 - The University of Newcastle, University Drive, Callaghan. Cost $50.
- Friday 21 September 2007 - The University of Newcastle, Central Coast campus, Chittaway Road, Ourimbah. Cost $50.
