Hey Brough! A hypothetical evening with Alan Brough
Encouraging students to think creatively about their future career is the focus of a hypothetical-style forum at the University of Newcastle next week.
Hosted by Alan Brough from ABC TV's 'Spicks and Specks', a panel of local identities will take a comedic look at careers and the strange experiences a diverse work life can bring. Manager of the University's Careers Service, Susan Eade, said the 'Hey, Brough!' forum on Wednesday 22 August would take a light-hearted look at the world of employment.
"The panel members have all been successful in their individual fields, but in any career there are highs and lows," Ms Eade said.
"They have generously agreed to bare all about their career history, and pass on some tips on how to build a successful career.
"The forum, which is open to the public, is sure to be an educational and highly entertaining experience."
The hypothetical will take a fly-on-the-wall look at two university students as they face a range of study and career dilemmas including whether study is worth the pain and efforts, following passions, and planning for success.
The 'Hey, Brough!' panel includes:
- Stephen Porges - CEO of the Newcastle Permanent Building Society
- Sharon Grierson - Federal Member for Newcastle
- Gail Whipper - Managing Director of Gail Whipper Recruitment Services
- Craig Roseveer - Manager of Rosies School of Rock
- Mark Sargent - Former Newcastle Knights captain
- John Maynard - Head of the Wollutuka School of Aboriginal Studies
- Bruce Perry - Examining Chaplain, Anglican Church
- Col McCowan - Careers researcher and educator, QUT
Tickets for the forum are $5 for U Card holders, $7 for students, and $30 for general community and are available by calling 4968 3717.
The forum will be held in the Nursing Lecture Theatre at the University of Newcastle, Callaghan campus, at 7pm on Wednesday 22 August.
