Saratoga resident, and Bachelor of Science student at the University of Newcastle Central Coast Campus, Jamen McLeod heads to the UK later this week, having been chosen to represent Australia in the National Universities Rugby League Team.
The 20 year old will play for Australia for the second time in as many years, and will join team mates on a three week tour pitting the local side up against the best from Great Britain's universities.
Jamen McLeod said being selected to represent Australia was a dream come true.
"It was a huge honour and I was really excited to be picked in the side last year, and this year is just as special," he said.
"Any chance to represent your country in any sport is a very proud moment.
"We'll be playing six matches over the three week tour, which is going to be pretty strenuous on the body, but I'm sure it will be a great and I'll get a lot out of the experience."
Jamen McLeod has been playing rugby league for 14 years, and currently plays fullback for the Entrance Tigers.
He juggles his hectic training schedule with full-time studies at the University, and is in his third year of a Bachelor of Science (Sports Activity).
"I've always loved sport, so studying to work in the sports industry was an obvious choice," he said.
"While I wasn't sure what career path to take at first, when I saw that a sports science degree was starting at the Central Coast Campus a few years ago, I decided to enrol.
"The degree provides me with a great range of subject choices, and many avenues and opportunities in the sporting industry. Eventually I'd also like to complete a post-graduate degree in physiotherapy.
"It is very challenging trying to juggle three days of uni each week with three days of football training and then playing, plus a part-time job, but it's all worth it when your effort pays off, like in the case of being picked to play for Australia."
The National Universities Rugby League team leaves for the UK on Saturday 23 June.
They will play a three match series against the Great Britain Universities side, one match against England Universities, another against the British Combined Services Team, and a third against the Celtic nations.
