The University of Newcastle Wind Orchestra will present the Australian premiere of Dutch composer Johan de Meij's The Venetian Collection in a special concert this week.
Conductor Ian Cook said fine art had inspired the work, as de Meji had taken four surreal paintings housed in the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, Italy for each of the movements.
Johan de Meij is best known for his Symphony No. 1 "The Lord of the Rings", based on the novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkein.
The concert will take place in the Harold Lobb Concert Hall at the Conservatorium at 8pm on Thursday 31 May 2007. Tickets are $12 adults, $8 concession and $25 for a family.
