Who can participate in the research?
Anyone over the age of 18 years who wishes to volunteer can participate in the research, responding to the first six questions in the survey. Additional questions are available for those who have used their computer to purchase, download or listen to music.
What choice do you have?
Participation in this research is entirely your choice. Whether or not you decide to participate, your decision will not disadvantage you.
If you do decide to participate, you may withdraw from the survey at any time without giving a reason, by simply using the Back button in your browser. If you withdraw before clicking on the Submit button, your data will not be recorded.
What would you be asked to do?
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to:
Complete an online survey of either six or thirty questions by clicking on the radio button beside the answer that best reflects your experience. Three questions allow for multiple responses, and one allows you to write any comments you might have.
The survey is anonymous. No identifying information will be collected.
While most of the data collected will be used as statistical information, comments may be quoted anonymously.
How much time will it take?
The survey will take five to fifteen minutes to complete.
What are the risks and benefits of participating?
There are no risks to you in participating in this survey, and there will be no benefit to you in participating. The survey questions outline a range of sources of music files which may be of interest to you.
How will your privacy be protected?
The questionnaire is anonymous and it will not be possible to identify you from your answers.
How will the information collected be used?
The data will be reported and/or presented in papers in academic conferences and journals.
A summary of the results will be provided on the project's MySpace site.
