Almost 6,000 students will get their first taste of university life when the University of Newcastle's annual Orientation Program gets underway next week at the Callaghan campus.

University of Newcastle Academic Registrar, Gail White, said Orientation Week (O Week) was a program of activities designed to introduce new students to the social, cultural and academic aspects of the University.

"Information sessions and workshops will be held across the campus to assist new students with program and course options, enrolments and registrations, faculty and library locations, study survival skills plus many sporting and social events," she said.

"O Week gives students the chance to become familiar with where they will study and what facilities are available to them."
