University academics receive Australia Day awards

Two University of Newcastle academics have been honoured in the 2007 Australia Day Awards.

Two University of Newcastle academics have been honoured in the 2007 Australia Day Awards.

Professor Graham Vimpani has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his commitment to child health and welfare.

He is head of the discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Newcastle and holds numerous appointments with national and international organisations, committees and boards in his field. He has worked with the University since 1999, and was instrumental in raising the profile of child health through founding National Investment for the Early Years Australia (NIFTeY).

Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Ashburn has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the visual arts.

She has been a Conjoint Professor with the University of Newcastle since 2003 and is heavily involved with contemporary Australian art, sustainable design, and the relationship between architecture and design.

The University of Newcastle congratulates its colleagues on receiving these prestigious awards and wishes them continued success.
