University of Newcastle Graduation

Semester Two graduation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, 5 October 2006 in the Great Hall at the University of Newcastle, Callaghan campus. More than 1,500 students are eligible to graduate and 738 will be attending the ceremonies. Four graduates will receive the University Medal, awarded to candidates who have achieved First Class Honours and displayed exceptional academic ability.

Graduation information

10am - Faculty of Business and Law; Faculty of Science and Information Technology

Honorary Degree recipient and Occasional Speaker: Dato' Pahamin A. Rajab, Doctor of Laws honoris causa

As one of Malaysia's most distinguished public servants and businessmen, Dato' Pahamin has made an outstanding contribution to the development of his country. He is the current Chairman of SEG International, one of Malaysia's largest and most prominent education and training providers and the University of Newcastle's partner institution for the delivery of education opportunities to students in Malaysia.

Occasional Speaker: Professor Roy Green - Dean, Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Macquarie University.

2pm - Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment; Faculty of Health

Exceptional Service Medal recipient: Professor Irena Madjar - Foundation Professor of Nursing, the University of Newcastle.

Occasional Speaker: Professor John Fraser - Director, Hunter New England Area Rural Training Unit.

6pm - Faculty of Education and Arts

Honorary Degree recipient: Ray Kelly, Doctor of Letters honoris causa
Ray Kelly has lived in Newcastle for more than 25 years, and in that time has made an enormous contribution to the Indigenous communities at regional, national and state levels as a leader and an artist/playwright.
