Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

Thursday 17 August 2006

The University of Newcastle's School of Drama, Fine Art and Music will this month present a season of the famous Tom Stoppard black comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a text on the 2006 HSC list, and this is a fabulous opportunity for students to see their HSC text come alive and to gain a genuine understanding of this landmark play.

"Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a sophisticated, witty look at the misadventures of two characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet who are thrust unwillingly into the limelight as they try to investigate Hamlet's sanity," said Co-Director Anne-Marie Adams.

"Part Waiting for Godot and part Seinfeld, this comedy questions the very reality of existence - and of theatre."

Starring Tom Birt as Rosencrantz, Richard Cox as Guildenstern and Michelle Pastor as Player, and directed by Anne-Marie Adams and Mark Coles, this production marks the 40th anniversary of the play's world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival. Dippin' Dots of the Esplanade, Warners Bay is the major sponsor.
