Year 12 students get a taste of life at the University of Newcastle

Wednesday 28 June 2006

More than 3,000 Year 12 students from high schools across Newcastle, the Hunter, the Central Coast, the Mid-North Coast and the Manning Valley will be at the University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus tomorrow for Schools Visit Day.

Representatives of the five faculties of the University will spend the day talking to students about the wide range of degree programs on offer. University staff will also be on hand to provide students with everything they need to know about admissions, enrolment, HECS fees and scholarships.

Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the social and cultural aspects of university life by visiting The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre, on-campus accommodation and enjoying entertainment and refreshments.

Kate Robinson, Manager - Media & Public Relations at the University of Newcastle, said Schools Visit Day was one of the most popular events on the University's calendar.

"The day gives students an opportunity to become familiar with all aspects of the University campus, and learn more about what we offer.

"University life is also about the services and activities available to students while they're studying, and Schools Visit Day really showcases those to students."

The University will also host a workshop for more than 80 careers advisers as part of Schools Visit Day.
