NUbots are new world champs!

Monday 19 June 2006

The University of Newcastle's NUbots have taken on the world in robotic soccer and won RoboCup 2006 in Germany.

The NUbots beat the University of New South Wales in a close final, scoring seven goals to three.

The NUbots successful run to the final saw the team score at least seven goals in each of their games. The final was the only game in which the NUbots conceded any goals.

The NUbots were one of 24 teams to compete in the top level of the Four-Legged League of the RoboCup. Competitors included teams from America, Europe, Japan and other Australian universities.

The NUbots have placed in the top three for the past four years. Their success at RoboCup 2006 follows a narrow defeat by Germany in a penalty shoot out in the final of RoboCup 2005.

The successful NUbots team, which is no doubt still celebrating in Germany, will return home to Australia over the next month.
