The University of Newcastle will launch a new DVD and training package designed to promote harmony and address issues of racism in the community.
The Family Action Centre was awarded a Federal Government Living in Harmony grant of $50,000 to develop the resource titled Cross Cultural Awareness and Communication - Promoting Acceptance of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLAD) Communities.
The DVD and training package developed by the Family Action Centre at the University will be launched today (Wednesday 29 March 2006) at 3pm at Stockland Jesmond Shopping Centre.
Sally Lord, Living in Harmony Project Coordinator at the University of Newcastle, says the University is working with the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and the community to promote cultural awareness and effective communication.
The DVD and training package will be available for businesses, the not-for-profit sector and education sector to promote community harmony.
The DVD will be launched by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Kevin McConkey. Guests will include the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cr John Tate and Ms. Violetta Walsh, Director, Multicultural Resource Centre. Media are invited to attend.
