Professor Stephen Crump has been appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of the Central Coast Campuses.
In a joint announcement today, the Vice-Chancellor of The University of Newcastle, Professor Nick Saunders and the Relieving Director of TAFE NSW – Hunter Institute, Mr John Moseley, hailed the appointment of Professor Crump as an important step forward for the multi-sector, multi-campus educational institution.
Professor Saunders and Mr Moseley said that Professor Crump’s appointment comes at a time when the Central Coast Campuses (a partnership of The University of Newcastle, TAFE NSW – Hunter Institute and the Central Coast Community College) is experiencing a sustained growth phase, particularly in the University sector.
They said Professor Crump’s specific experience in managing a regional, multi-sector educational facility, working with many levels of government and the community, his research capacity and proven record as a respected educator, will be highly valuable to the Central Coast Campuses.
“Professor Crump brings a broad range of skills and experience to this position as well as a deep understanding of the needs of a multi-sector, regional educational facility. These will be vital to continue the growth and strategic direction of higher education and vocational education on the Central Coast, Professor Saunders and Mr Moseley said.
“His most recent role has been as the Executive Manager for the Centre for Regional Education in Orange (a partnership of the University of Sydney, TAFE NSW – Western Institute and Orange District Schools – and in 2005 with Charles Sturt University). Previously, Professor Crump has held a range of academic roles with the University of Sydney, the University of Newcastle and the NSW Department of School Education.
“During a vital and productive career, Professor Crump has been involved with teaching, research and management activities. He has been published widely and has shown outstanding leadership in the field of education. His skills, expertise, research capacity, professional and community associations as well as his demonstrated experience in the management of a multi-sector facility are very impressive,” they said.
The Central Coast Campuses is an extremely successful venture that delivers higher, vocational and adult education to the Central Coast region. It is a partnership of The University of Newcastle, TAFE NSW – Hunter Institute and the Central Coast Community College. Its three campuses are located at Gosford, Ourimbah and Wyong.
Professor Crump will commence his new role on Monday, 20th February, 2006. He will be based at the Ourimbah campus.
