A group of postgraduate students from India will be in Newcastle over the next week learning about International Business from the University of Newcastle and local businesses.
The 28 students are from the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad, India. The students will spend their mornings in lectures at the University's Newcastle Graduate School of Business (NGSB) before visiting local industries in the afternoon.
Suzanne Ryan, Acting Head of the NGSB, says India is playing an increasingly important role in the world economy.
"This visit is a great opportunity for the Indian students to learn about the role that Australia plays in the international market," says Suzanne.
"It also provides an opportunity for the University and local commerce and industry to learn first hand about India and the opportunities it offers to the Hunter Region."
"Students will hear about Newcastle and the Hunter's exports during industry visits to OneSteel, Hunter Exporters, HunterNet, Port Waratah Coal Services, and the Newcastle Port Corporation as well as other small businesses already doing business with India, like the First Creek winery."
The students will be accompanied by their lecturer, Dr Rajiv Thakur, who will continue discussions with the University to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding to enable staff and student exchanges between the institutions and develop important research and executive development opportunities.
The group will leave Newcastle on Tuesday 31 January 2006. There are a number of photo opportunities available until this time.
