University Awarded Over $11 Million in ARC Grants

Wednesday, 9 November 2005

The University of Newcastle has secured $11.1 million in today’s announcement of the Australian Research Council (ARC) National Competitive Grants Program.

The grants have been awarded to 29 research projects and six infrastructure projects across the University over the next five years. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Adrian Page, says the latest round of ARC grants confirms the University of Newcastle’s place in the top ten research universities in Australia.

“Our researchers rank in the world's best and these grants will extend the vitally important work we are doing across the University,” says Professor Page.

“Particularly pleasing is the success of a number of our early career researchers which bodes well for the future of the University.”

“In addition, the University was awarded a prestigious Australian Professorial Fellowship for Professor Garry Willgoose, who will join the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment from the University of Leeds in the UK.”
