Port Macquarie campus nursing students from both the North Coast Institute of TAFE and the University of Newcastle, will join together to celebrate International Nurses' Day on Thursday 12 May, 2005.
TAFE Nursing Head Teacher, Sharen Marshall said, "TAFE and the University of Newcastle see the day as a great opportunity to celebrate the partnership formed in 2004 that has given the Hastings region the opportunity to access Nursing Career pathways through Certificate 111 and IV Aged Care TAFE courses and Bachelor of Nursing programs".
International Nurses' Day is an opportunity for nurses to celebrate achievements and to highlight messages of importance regarding the health and well-being of the communities they serve.
Celebrations begin at the Port Macquarie campus, from 11am. The nursing students will offer other students and employees the opportunity to have their blood pressure measured, provide information on nursing as a career to prospective students and celebrate with a pizza lunch provided by the TAFE Student Association. The library will also support the celebration with a display of nursing resources and posters.
University of Newcastle Nursing Site Coordinator, Lyn Bowen said, "The unique partnership that is developing between TAFE and University nurses will be enhanced through cooperative celebrations such as this, and ensure the students and graduates of both institutions continue to work together as a team".
