Prospective University students keen to study at Ourimbah

18th January 2005

The latest available data about applications for degree programs offered by The University of Newcastle has shown a healthy demand for study at the Ourimbah Campus.

With offers to be made at 9pm tomorrow (Wednesday, 19th January), the demand for University programs at the Ourimbah campus has increased significantly from last year, heralding the biggest first year enrolment in the history of the campus.

Executive Director of Student and Alumni Services, Ms Gail White, said today that 1st preference applications for the Ourimbah campus have increased by 41% while overall preferences have increased by 24.17%.

Ms White said these figures prior to the offers being made, show a healthy demand for University study in the Central Coast region.

"The Ourimbah Campus is going through another significant period of growth, reflecting the continuing population growth in the Central Coast region. The campus has been allocated an extra 365 University places for 2005, a growth pattern that will continue over 2006 and 2007.

There will also be more than 60 prospective students offered an opportunity to start in the new Bachelor of Oral Health and around 40 in the Sport and Physical Activity specialisation of the Bachelor of Science. These three factors are major contributors to increased enrolments at Ourimbah," Gail said.

"However, it is not the total picture. Our UAC application figures show that overall demand for the Ourimbah campus has increased significantly. There are applications from across Australia and internationally for niche study areas, but there is also a huge demand by Central Coast residents for University places in their local area," she said.

"Of particular interest are increases across the board in the areas of Humanities, Teaching and Science," she added.

An Information Session will be held at the Ourimbah Campus on Thursday, 20th January for people requiring information about their University offers and also to assist with enquiries regarding second and late round offers and also full fee paying places. It will be held in the Campus Information & Service Centre at the Ourimbah Campus between 1pm and 6pm. Further enquiries can be made by telephoning 4348 4030.
