What should I consider prior to starting my job
Before starting your job we suggest that you:
- Look at the examples of existing University marketing materials, publications or promotional items. These examples may give you an idea of what you would like to produce.
- A couple of questions you should consider:
Who are you talking to?
What do you want them to do?
What is your budget? - Consult your Faculty marketing contact / marketing project officer. If you need further advice contact our Production Coordinator Renee Brown, via email Renee.Brown@newcastle.edu.au or phone 02 4921 5156.
- Contact the University approved design agencies.
How much will my marketing materials / publication cost?
This is difficult to determine until our design agencies have an idea of what you are trying to achieve with your marketing or publication. Costs are dependent upon a number of variables eg. for publications it will depend on the size of your publication (format and number of pages), the quantity your require, the paper or stock chosen and whether it is black and white or colour etc. For all other marketing materials the design agency will need to understand your needs to determine what the costs will be.
You may only require a simple flyer, or you may need to consider a larger integrated campaign that include a number of different marketing items in order to reach your audience.
A couple of questions you should consider:

Early planning is essential to ensure you have what you need when you need it. While our University approved design agencies are often able to juggle their schedule, jobs are booked well in advanced with very little capacity to undertake large urgent jobs. So try and plan early to avoid any disappointment. We suggest you allow a minimum of three weeks.
What will my publication look like?
All items for marketing purposes are produced using University approved templates by University approved design agencies to support the University's integrated marketing strategies and corporate identity.
The design agency will send you a copy of your publication or marketing materials for approval and sign-off before they are sent to print or final production.
