What our students have to say about living and studying in Newcastle.
Josie
Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics
I moved from Tasmania to study in Newcastle. I didn't know a single person when I arrived, and it's amazing how easy it is to make new friends here.
Living minutes from the beach, city centre, and funky cafes is fantastic, and it's only a short drive to the University.
Manish, India
Master of Business Administration
I found Newcastle to be a friendly place. I've met lots of people - not just Australians, but from all over the world through study and through work, so I've never felt uncomfortable here. I'd definitely recommend Newcastle to any new student. It's a great city and a fantastic University.
Stephanie
Bachelor of Physiotherapy
University life is fantastic and the balance between studying, work and social activities is very important. Newcastle is a fun place to live and study with so much going on for students.
Oscar, Chile
Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Commerce
Studying in Newcastle has been a great experience - it's a beautiful city, with the beaches and the warm weather. It's not as expensive as Sydney.
Laura
Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts
I'm originally from Port Macquarie which is one of the reasons I chose to study in Newcastle as it's close to both home and Sydney.
The location of the Uni itself is fantastic, everything in Newcastle is close by.
Matthew
Bachelor of Mathematics/ Bachelor of Science
I went to high school locally and despite having the option to move away for Uni, I chose to stay and study in Newcastle. It's a decision that I haven't regretted in the slightest.
The social scene is awesome and the lifestyle is great. It's so convenient and affordable being only a short drive or train ride from the University and the city.
Aija, Canada
Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts
I love the beaches and the friendly people! It's a really nice sized city - not as busy as Sydney but still really close if you want to go down for the day.
I live a block and a half from the beach - I can swim every day in summer. I am also learning to surf and I enjoy running and cycling along the beaches and the foreshore.
Yik, Malaysia
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
The people are friendly and welcoming and generous. It has a family feeling here which I don't think you'd get in a capital city, and there are good beaches.
