Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy is part of the life of the Central Coast campus at Ourimbah. It is for all students and staff of all faiths or none. The Chaplain, the Reverend Roy Hazlewood, works with the campus community; celebrating its life, mourning its pain and contributing to the experience of students and staff.

You do not need to belong to a religious group to see the chaplain. In fact, many who come to see the chaplain have no particular religious affiliation. They want someone with whom to talk over questions for which they are looking for answers.

About Chaplaincy

The chaplaincy offers:

  • A friendly, accepting, non-judgmental environment
  • A person who will listen and discuss in confidence matters of a spiritual, religious, ethical or personal nature
  • Support and companionship in your spiritual journey
  • Support in finding God without twisting arms or sacrificing reason
  • Spiritual and intellectual support for students in their studies
  • A place where you can ask your questions and talk about your hopes and dreams
  • A Campus Quiet Room on in the Library, Level 1, Room A2.47, for prayer and meditation
  • Opportunities for learning meditation, relaxation and faith exploration
  • Support for students and staff in any worthwhile project
  • Support in times of turmoil, grief or confusion
  • A no proselytising policy. In other words you will not be hit over the head with a Bible, nor will you have your arm twisted
  • Free public lectures.

Campus Quiet Room

The Campus Quiet Room is in room A2.47 on the first floor of the Library. It is open during library hours for anyone who desires an area for multifaith prayer, quiet, reflection and meditation. Please remember that other persons may be using the room so enter quietly. If the door is closed the room may be in use.

Visit Roy in the Chaplain's Office, Room C1.14 in the Student Support Unit. He is usually on campus Tuesday to Friday during normal office hours. You may also communicate with him by email at Roy.Hazlewood@newcastle.edu.au or by telephone on (02) 4348 4036.
