Gibalee Aboriginal Learning Centre

The Gibalee Centre was established in July 1999 on the Central Coast Campus and was officially opened by Senator Aden Ridgeway on 5 November 1999. In February 2003, the Gibalee Centre merged with the University's Wollotuka School of Aboriginal Studies to extend its capacity to provide a quality service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Central Coast campus is multisectoral offering programs from the Central Coast Community College, TAFE NSW - Hunter Institute and the University of Newcastle.

The University of Newcastle has a commitment to encourage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across a variety of programs including:

  • Yapug - a program designed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people gain skills for entry into University degrees.
