SECOND CURRICULUM RENEWAL RETREAT, 29 AND 30 MARCH
At our second retreat in March 2012, substantial progress was reported by most groups in developing plans for aspects of the new curriculum, namely Assessment, Modules and PBL, Research, Interprofessional Learning, Themes and Pathways, Competencies and Objectives, and Clinical Schools.
It was agreed that the next step in the process would be the detailed documentation of competencies within the context of the longitudinal themes (Professional, Scholarship, Community) in collaboration with Discipline Leads. Another major task was the development of a literature base to provide a sound pedagogical basis for the planned curriculum changes.
The other major area of discussion at the retreat was the proposed MD model, consisting of a two year accelerated undergraduate component followed by a three year Masters component. While this generated substantial discussion for and against, ultimately this model was endorsed by the majority of attendees.
Given these developments, it is now proposed to defer the commencement of the revised curriculum to 2015.
