The JMP has co-funded four new positions at Armidale Hospital as part of its plans to improve medical services in the area and increase access for JMP students to high-quality teaching staff.
Dr Nihad Abu-Asab has started work as Associate Professor in the School of Rural Medicine and will also take up an Obstetrics and Gynaecology staff specialist position at Armidale Hospital.
Dr Elizabeth Cotterill commenced work as an Associate Professor at UNE and VMO at Armidale Hospital in Paediatrics and Dr Saroja Krishnaswarmy has also begun as Associate Professor and staff specialist in Psychiatry. Dr Alan McCaffery has commenced work in the Emergency Department and will also work at UNE helping coordinate Years 4 and 5 of the JMP.
"The appointments are an important step forward for Armidale's specialist medical services and the JMP," said Dr Maree Puxty, the Clinical Dean of the Tablelands Clinical School.
"Students' access to such high-calibre staff in the region will help prepare them for the many facets and challenges of rural medicine."
The JMP partnerships are continuing to attract highly qualified clinicians to serve the community of Armidale and contribute to training JMP students.
