Application process

All prospective candidates who wish to be considered for a Commonwealth Supported Place within the MD-JMP must lodge all three applications outlined below to be eligible for consideration. The 2015 Prospective Student Guide is now available and has lots of information about the two campuses and the application and selection processes.

Candidates must lodge all THREE of the below applications to be eligible to be considered for entry to the JMP - Doctor of Medicine.

1. Register to sit Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT)

You must register online to sit the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT). On-time registrations for UMAT 2014 will close at 5:00pm AEST on 6 June 2014. A standard fee of $210 applies. Further information concerning UMAT may be obtained at through the UMAT office. Note: All prospective students for entry in 2015 must sit UMAT in 2014. 

AND

2. Apply directly to the University of Newcastle/University of New England

The online MD-JMP direct university applications for admission to the Bachelor of Medical Science/ Doctor of Medicine in 2015 will open in late August. Applications will close 30 September 2014.The closing date is strictly enforced and late applications WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED under any circumstances. Applicants are able to indicate their preferred enrolment location (University of Newcastle or University of New England) on their online application. 3. Lodge an Application through UAC

You must submit an online application through the Universities Admission Centre, ensuring that you include Bachelor of Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine (UAC Code 785000 - CSP) at the University of Newcastle/University of New England among your preferences. The closing date for on-time applications is 30 September 2014. Upon payment of the appropriate late fee, late applications will be accepted by UAC. It is essential that you have lodged a UAC application and that Bachelor of Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine at University of Newcastle/ University of New England is included as a preference by 28 November 2014. Any change of preference to add MD-JMP to your preferences after this date will not be considered. Instructions on how to apply to UAC may be obtained from the UAC website.

The change to the new MD-JMP is subject to receiving accreditation from the Australian Medical Council in 2014. If, due to unforeseen circumstances accreditation is not possible, students will be enrolled in the current Bachelor of Medicine Program.
