Centre for Teaching and Learning

The Centre for Teaching and Learning plays a key role in ensuring high quality teaching and learning at the University. The Centre aims to effectively link teaching & research and support the professional development of academic staff. Special Studies Program

Academic staff are eligible to apply for six months sabbatical leave on full pay every three years.

Women@UoN

Women@UoN is a professional development program for female staff of the University.  It is an integral part of our overall equity strategy aimed at supporting women to achieve promotion and prepare for leadership roles.  Included in Women@UoN is the Academic Women in Leadership Program.  Visit the Women@UoN website  for more information.

Research Program

REfocus@UoN was introduced in 2009 and is dedicated to the development and support of researchers at the University of Newcastle. The program aims to develop the strategic researcher by supporting excellence, innovation and cooperation in the career lifecycle - from Early Career Researcher to internationally respected expert. Research Support Schemes

The University offers a range of research support schemes to foster and encourage researchers to the point where they can become competitive for external research funding, such as Early Career Researcher Grants.  Further information is available from the Grants and Contracts website.

Leadership Programs

Leadership development programs are available for Heads of Schools, Directors, Associate Directors and other supervisors.  These programs aim to skill staff for leadership roles.  More information is available from the Organisational Development website.

Reimbursement of Study Fees and Study Leave

Staff are able to apply for study leave, examination leave and reimbursement of fees for a program of study relevant to employment, and of benefit to the University. The rate of reimbursement is 50% of the individual tuition course fees.
