Employment Conditions
Appointment Details
Appointment level will depend on qualifications and experience, with commencement salary being negotiable within the range. The University reserves the right not to make an appointment, seek any additional information to inform the decision making process and make an appointment by invitation.
Offer of Appointment
Should the University wish to offer you the position, a formal, written letter of offer will follow any verbal discussions that might be held with you. It is recommended that you do not resign from your current employment until you have received our written offer. The contents of this formal letter of offer and its attachments will constitute the entire agreement between the employee and the employer, and will supersede all previous representations, negotiations, commitments and communications, either written or oral between the parties. Any agreements will only be binding on the employer where they have been formally offered by Human Resource Services and accepted by the employee.
Conditions of Employment
A salary appropriate to the salary range for the position will be negotiated with the appointee. Flexible salary packaging is available. As specified in the position advertisement, conditions of employment may be covered by an applicable Workplace Agreement.
Annual Leave
Four weeks annual leave with a 17.5% salary loading are available after 12 months of continuous service.
Long Service Leave
Three months long service leave is available after 10 years' service.
Personal Leave
Twenty five days personal leave is available per year to cover absences including illness, caring for a family member, and compassionate/bereavement leave.
For part-time employment, entitlements are paid on a pro-rata basis

Other Conditions
Employment at the University is also governed by the University of Newcastle Act, 1989; the By-Law pursuant to the Act and the rules, policies and procedures made and varied from time to time under the Act.
