'It was during my travels on a working holiday visa that I came to stay with relatives in Newcastle. I got used to the lifestyle here and decided to enrol in Undergraduate studies at the University here.
'I find the staff in my faculty very approachable and they provide good quality feedback on my work. Their approach to teaching gives me the impression that they want me to develop a thorough constructive understanding for the science that I am studying. The course is very objective and the scientific approach is well balanced with case studies, group research projects as well as individual tasks. Some of our research studies and tutorial activities form part of the problem based learning approach that is used by the University and I find this a really great way to learn! My lecturers and tutors are all very well regarded and have made significant contributions to the field. I have a great respect for them and they show great respect for us students and our contributions as well.
The on campus support systems are 1st class! The information and support staff are at my fingertips. I have found that when help is needed all I have to do is ask! The strength of the support system gives me confidence during my studies because you know that someone will help you whenever there is a problem.
The structure and professionalism I have experienced in my degree program has me seriously considering further studies here. Right now I am considering my options for a future in Psychology and if the opportunity arises I may even look into doing a postgraduate degree in Psychology here! Nonetheless due to my encounters with such a diversity of people and perspectives I have developed a broader outlook on where I see my future career path and I feel I have unlimited opportunities!'
Newcastle life is great! I especially love the campus, the bushland setting with open spaces and the native vegetation and the layout of facilities creates a very relaxed atmosphere. There are plenty of clubs on campus. The mountaineering club, diving club and the superb sports facilities are some of the best I have joined. Newcastle’s outdoor lifestyle also means I get to spend time at the beach and Lake Macquarie where I have been lucky enough to have use of my neighbour’s boat. The friends I have made here at the university are invaluable to me; they come from all parts of the world, and have given me greater confidence in making Newcastle my home away from home!
My advice to other students considering studying here would be that studying in another country is a big decision, but the support system here makes it easy. The University of Newcastle has great facilities and lots of clubs and societies to help you establish your friends and networks. I really enjoy studying at the University of Newcastle!!”
