Architecture

The University of Newcastle, School of Architecture boasts a rich and strong history and certainly lives up to this reputation. The school is headed and ran by many experienced professionals and individuals.

The problem based learning structure is extremely effective and allows me to fully explore the design and development of architecture. This problem based learning is also made effective by factors such as the resources, staff and most importantly the fellow students.

The staff are willing to be of assistance at any time and provide a diverse spread of creative input, opinion, direction and experience in the profession.

As a student that has studied from first year through to the end of fourth year, I have experienced that we have a great freedom to mix and socialise with both our peers in the same year or with those in the years above and below us. This enables students to discuss and aid one another with their studies through out their university lives. The strong bond made between the students is conducive to a dynamic learning environment.

Contributing to this strong learning environment are the facilities the school has available. Students are entitled to and are encouraged to work in the provided architecture studio. Here students can setup personal workspaces and can enjoy a common work environment with their peers.

The school also provides, along with the university libraries, an architectural resource centre located within the architecture studio. The existing computer facilities and resources are being relocated within the studio also as a welcomed addition.

This studio resource and environment is quite a unique facility and experience, and is one that facilitates and makes the learning process enjoyable and generates motivation for students individually or as a group or body. The future looks excellent for the school and I look forward to my final year involved here.
