'I had wanted to study abroad and had been overseas to a few Spanish speaking countries but my experiences there were limited due to my remedial knowledge of the language. I had seen that the University of Newcastle had an exchange agreement with Arkansas and as I had always wanted to go to Australia, and after hearing rave reviews from past students, I made the choice to study here.'
'A lot of my friends at home attended large public universities with large lecture style courses where there is a very limited scope for individual attention. The format of small tutorial classes to supplement the lectures here means that the professors can give feedback on a one to one basis. My Master’s courses are small and the teachers seem to be on my wavelength, so I don’t need to explain the concepts and visions that I possess.
I’m planning to study law, and I hope that I can pursue that here. The Master of Trade and Development will help to introduce me to the alternative side of business and help me develop a neoclassical view and a different perspective on the international economic situation. I would like to pursue a career in international legislative consultation.'
'I really like Newcastle because the people are so friendly and as soon as they hear my accent they are automatically inquisitive and are eager to discover more about me. The campus has also a stunningly aesthetic beauty, which is often lost in metropolitan campuses like you might find in Sydney. I have also taken the opportunity to live in town so the beach is a definite bonus. Newcastle’s laid back personality fits my persona.'
'My advice to other students who are thinking of studying in Australia is to gather as much information as you can, and start the application process early. When you get here make sure you get involved with as many clubs and organisations that are aligned with your interests. My passion is my environment and the University of Newcastle as well as off campus resources are a great way to open your eyes and start to really live. Reach out beyond the University and connect with the community of Newcastle!'
