Application and Admissions

Academic Requirements

The normal minimum entry requirement to a postgraduate program is a completed degree from a recognised tertiary institution. Many programs also have additional entry criteria such as work experience or audition tapes.
Research programs require that students have research experience and an honours degree (first class), a research-oriented graduate diploma, a completed Masters qualifying course with a research component, or evidence of scholarly or professional experience.

English Language Proficiency

International students must also satisfy the University's English Language requirements. This must take the form of
· a minimum TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of 4.5 in the paper based test or a score of 213 with a 4.5 in the Essay Rating in the computer based test,

The University offers preparatory English language courses through the Language Centre for students requiring additional English language tuition.

Details are available on the process for lodging an application and providing appropriate documentation. It also explains how you will receive an offer and confirmation of enrolment, which you will need to obtain your student visa.

Closing Dates

Closing date for scholarship applications: 30 September
The University of Newcastle will accept an application submitted after the closing date, but late applications may not be considered for entry until the next semester.

Application Form

If you would like to apply for admission, please complete the application form, together with all the necessary documents to support your application. If you are applying for a scholarship, please complete the Scholarship Referee's Report forms.

Tuition Fees

All overseas students are required to pay the full cost of their tuition, which ranges from AUD $6,700 to AUD $16,750 per annum for postgraduate courses. These figures are indicative only. In addition, you will need to budget for approximately AUD $12,000 per annum to meet accommodation and living expenses. It is very difficult to find temporary employment in Australia, and you should not rely on this to support yourself.

Refund Policy

The University of Newcastle refund policy for International Students applies to students enrolled in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Study Abroad, UNIPATH and ELICOS Courses. It is effective from October 1999.
