Looking for off campus rental accommodation in Newcastle and surrounding areas? Come along to a briefing session to learn about the local property market, how to find accommodation, what to look for when inspecting properties, how to apply for accommodation once you have found the right place, and what you should know before you sign a property lease contract.

Following the briefing session staff will be on hand to offer help and assistance in finding accommodation using the Off Campus Accommodation Database. A free mini bus service will provide transport to attend property inspections within the Newcastle area.

Compulsory Faculty & Information Day for Commencing Students

In order to be prepared for your first semester at University it is compulsory that you attend your orientation day during O Week. 

Attending your orientation day is a great way to prepare for University life. Come and meet staff and other students, discover your campus and learn more about being a University of Newcastle student.

The Orientation Day will be a whole day event including specific information sessions for international students, program and enrolment information + free lunch and entertainment.

Also enjoy our annual Campus Quest which will help you learn your way around the campus and meet new people in a fun, interactive and exciting way.


Contemporary Aboriginal Art Class

We each tell a story in many different ways.  Some of us like to read, others like to sing while others like to paint.  Bring your own story to life by painting it on canvas.

Join us for a 3 hour art class and learn how to create your own "journey" on canvas using Contemporary Aboriginal Symbols and Art.  The class will be conducted by representatives of the Thungutti Tribe from Kempsey, Northern NSW.

Free lunch will be provided for students between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

 Cost: $5 per person (includes art supplies and canvas)

Australian Football League (AFL) Skills Workshop

Australian Rules Football, known as AFL or Aussie Rules is a unique Australian sport. Come along and learn a new set of skills, gameplay, rules, kicking and passing. The session includes instructions from professional players, skills practice and game.

The AFL workshop will be followed by free lunch.

Explore Newcastle

Students living in Newcastle City can meet at Civic Park at 1.00pm

This will be a fun filled, exciting event aimed at commencing students to help with navigating Newcastle city.

Buses will transport students to and from campus to participate in this free activity. Upon arrival students will be broken into teams and allocated a leader to assist them.  The teams will be provided with a bag of information, maps and instructs to follow their way around and Explore Newcastle city.

The Explore Newcastle is a scavenger hunt style event were teams will be required to visit various check points throughout the city, collect items along the way, participate in challenges and post live social media photo updates.

The event is open to all commencing International students at all fitness levels, however there will be a considerable amount of walking involved.

The route is approximately 5 kilometers in distance, we estimate it will take 2-3 hours to complete, including stopping at many sites. Participants can walk, jog or run (or catch transport provided) to destinations. However cars, buses, bikes, scooters or hover-boards are not permitted.

Cost: Free (food is not included in this event, however food can purchased along the way)

Australian Reptile Park

Come join us at this hands-on zoo for some close encounters with the park's scaly and furry animals.

See lots of Australian wildlife including 'Elvis' - NSW's biggest and crankiest crocodile. View native and exotic reptiles and spiders. Have a photo with a giant python, a wombat or a cuddly koala.

Bring a packed lunch or purchase lunch from the kiosk at the park.

Cost: $13.00 (includes entry and transportation)

Newcastle Knights Live Rugby League Match

Match will be held at Hunter Stadium
