Study Abroad

Our Study Abroad program allows students enrolled in overseas institutions to study at the University of Newcastle and receive credit for these studies at their home institutions.

The program typically consists of two stages:

Stage one: 15-20 weeks of ELICOS
  • 20 hours of face-to-face teaching
  • 5 hours of lectures each week

Stage two: A semester of Undergraduate study at the University of Newcastle

Study Abroad students are required to achieve an undergraduate pass in the Language Centre's English for Academic Purposes course in order to choose 40 units (4 subjects) from a variety of interesting, exciting and relevant courses offered in the University's selection of Bachelor programs.

Where the English requirements are not met, a Study Abroad student can still proceed with standard undergraduate studies.  They can choose 30 units (3 subjects) of the courses mentioned above, which must include ESLA 1901 Academic Language Skills.

Semester 2, 2013 July-November 2013

Requirements:
  • It is expected that applicants for the Study Abroad Program have completed at least one year of full-time study at their home institution
  • Students must have an English proficiency equivalent to TOEFL score of 490 or more
