Student experience programs
Language Centre students are encouraged to take part in our Student Experience Programs, which give them to opportunity to engage with Australian students, other international students and the community. The program is designed to enhance the students' Australian experience, and build strong relationships.
Volunteering and Work Experience program
This 20-hour conservation volunteer program is conducted through the Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia. The Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia is recognised both nationally and internationally as a hub of leading practice in wetlands conservation, education, tourism and management. The Wetlands engage volunteers by providing a unique, accessible and sustainable wetlands experience.
International Friendship program
This program gives students the opportunity to meet local Australian students and build relationships through regular out-of-class activities at local Newcastle attractions, for example: a day out at the Newcastle Museum, a picnic lunch on the Foreshore, visits the Farmer's Market, a tour of Nobby's Lighthouse.
Speed Conversation sessions
Our Speed Conversation sessions are a weekly activity is designed to engage both the Language Centre students and other University students in casual conversation, building friendships across different cultures. Embrace another culture and educate others in your own.

ELICOS Social Club
Students have plenty of opportunities for fun and entertainment. Our ELICOS student social club organises activities for evenings, weekends and holiday periods if you wish to participate.
Activities can include:
- Weekend barbecues
- Visiting the local wildlife centre to see kangaroos and koalas
- Evening trips to the theatre and restaurants
- Excursions to Sydney to visit the sights of Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Taronga ZooLearn to surf lessons
- Celebrations of our students' National days
