The University of Newcastle endeavours to give an equal opportunity to all accommodation candidates and for this reason utilises a 'first-in-best-dressed' policy. This year offers will be made upon checking availability and that the applicant has met the application requirements. The offer will contain details of any applicable fees payable in order to accept the offer. These must be paid before the application can be confirmed. Successful applicants will be notified via email.
Due to limited on-campus housing it is strongly recommended that students apply early and also consider researching off campus housing options. Applying early does not guarantee acceptance.
Finding off-campus accommodation is one of the biggest decisions faced by students. For those students who do not get placed on campus or don't want live on campus, the Accommodation Service has a comprehensive database and accommodation guide, which offers access to an abundance of quality housing that surrounds the University and Newcastle area. Consequently there is an opportunity for students to live closer to the beach and night life.
You can access some useful accommodation information on off campus accommodation here.
You can also register on the University's off campus accommodation database (red box in top right hand corner of page) as a future student to access accommodation that people in the community, other students and real estate agents have listed on the database. We advise students to use this as an information tool only until they arrive in Newcastle and can view the properties in person.
We recommend that you stay in temporary accommodation for a few days when you first arrive in Newcastle so that you can familiarise yourself with the area. During this time, you can consider the different accommodation options available to you. Read more about finding temporary accommodation here.
Homestay is a popular choice of accommodation for international student that provides the opportunity to live in a home environment while studying at the University. Each host family is interviewed and the accommodation is inspected before a student is placed with the family and Homestay staff will try to match the interests of students to those of our families. Information about your host family will be sent to you before you leave your home country for Australia.
Visit our Homestay page to find out more and to apply.
