Who We Are

The Humanities Research Institute champions research in the humanities at the University of Newcastle, encourages team research, foster the development of outstanding individual researchers at all levels, and brokers collaborations with other research groupings inside and outside the University. The focus of the Institute is on supporting programmes of research in the first instance, to effect a consolidation of effort to sharply increased quality outputs.  The Institute aims to complement the work of Research Services and build capacity within its specific research community for achieving greater success with external funding.

Become a Friend of the Humanities Research Institute

The Friends of the Humanities Research Institute was launched in August 2011 to encourage collaboration between the members of the Institute and the wider community. This informal network supports both the activities and outreach directions of the Institute. Friends are invited to provide suggestions for future activities, such as the planned Humanities Research Institute (International) Prize for the most important contirubtion to the humanities over the past 5 years, and our annual Big Book Club event, as well as receiving notices of public lectures, seminars and other interesting activities.

If you are interested in being a part of this unique opportunity please telephone the Institute on 02 4921 7915 or email: Humanities-research@newcastle.edu.au.
