Summary and Significance of Programme:
Violence is very familiar and yet little understood. This research programme will examine the deep and complex histories of violence and social order from the early modern period to the present day. Our interdisciplinary studies will cross Asia, Australasia, Europe, the United States and the Middle East. It will develop new conceptual frameworks for understanding of violence and social order in historical, political and sociological contexts. The expected outcomes include a significant improvement in research output, which will position the School of Humanities at the forefront of the history of violence in Australia .
