About the Institute

The Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle is a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to enhancing understanding of Chinese language and culture in the Newcastle and Hunter region. Through language training courses and engagement programs with schools, principals and the general community, the Confucius Institute aims to strengthen educational and cultural exchange and cooperation between China and our region.

The Confucius Institute is a joint venture between the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and the University of Newcastle. Central China Normal University, China, one of the country's premier tertiary institutions, is the officially designated partner university for the Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle. We would like to acknowledge the generous support and cooperation of our partner organisations in establishing the Confucius Institute.
