WIL Student Video Competition 2013

WIL STUDENT VIDEO COMPETITION

Lights, camera, action!

The WIL Student Video Competition encourages students to capture their WIL experiences in a video, this way promoting the valuable WIL opportunities offered to participants.

This year, there were nine entries from students in disciplines as varied as medicine, construction management, speech pathology and education.

Emily Leary receives her WIL Student Video of the Year award from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen

Bachelor of Communication student, Emily Leary, was named winner of the 2013 Student Video Competition for her slick presentation of WIL placement at the 2NUR FM newsroom.

Runner Up was Bachelor of Medicine student, Ahmad Syafiq Akbar Ali, who made a video on his international WIL placement to Malaysia. The excellent amateur photographer documented his WIL journey in photographs as well as thorough reports. During his placement he 'thought outside the square' and learned about holistic approaches to culturally challenging problems when dealing with HIV patients.

The videos can be viewed on the University of Newcastle's YouTube Channel and will also be used in campaigns to encourage more students and external partners to take part in WIL activities.

The Work Integrated Learning Student Video Competition is for domestic or international undergraduate students, who have finished or currently completing a workplace-based placement.

Students created a short clip that reflected their work integrated learning activity and showed the benefits of placement work and career-readiness. Don't forget the annual competition will be back in October 2014 so start thinking of your WIL creatively and you could share in a prize pool of $3,000!
