Fluidity
painting and works on paper
This body of work evolved out of a literal re-immersion in the sublime beauty of the coastline on relocation to Newcastle after years away from such an environment. Initial photographs, drawings and watercolours of ocean, sky, open vistas, ocean baths became abstracted reveries on water and its many qualities. Underwater observations of light, colour and movement at the ocean baths were translated onto paper and canvas, pondering sensations of consistently shifting and changing water framed by the geometry of the baths. Ruminating on the poetics and symbolic associations of this fluidity resulted in this series of works.Sophie Munns

Chinese Whispers
2D
The experience of travelling in another culture can be like playing Chinese whispers… generating a hushed phrase that takes on a life of its own, becoming something unlike what you may have intended… or existing only as an impression. These works stem from a 2006 stay in China and are an exploration of the impressions gained from the journey. Caelli Jo Brooker

Looking up…in Newcastle
painting and printmaking
From our lowly point of view…what is the point of looking down? The surface of the ground seems so closer, so hard, so limiting… Directing our gaze to heaven… hope and love are infinite. Andrea Bruno
