Process & Form

PROCESS & FORM is an exploration of sculpture from the preliminary planning stages through to the production of the final piece. This exhibition focuses on the integration of process & form, two sides of the artistic practice that are ultimately inseparable. This is a unique opportunity to see (and collect) the work of some of Newcastle's finest emerging artists.

Emily Coutts and Laura Jefferson are currently completing their Honours in Fine Art. As well as being the curators of Process & Form they are also exhibiting their work in the show.

Windows to Newcastle
JEAN-LOUIS KOCHER

In 2011 Jean-Louis, along with five other artists, participated in the art residency program "a Fascination with Process 2" held at Watt Space. Jean-Louis' residency project was to take photographic portraits of all the visitors that came through the gallery. This exhibition is a display of those portraits.

City of Jeans
KYLIE MOORE

Newcastle has changed from a working class town to a cosmopolitan city. In these works Kylie has re-purposed jeans, clothing that was originally worn as work wear, to create collage interpretations of Newcastle and its surrounds.

By giving the jeans new life Kylie is expressing the revitalisation and beauty of a city once associated with pollution and ugliness.

The View of the Free People

The View of the Free People is a collection of works containing themes of travel, festival and surf culture whilst working with ambiguous social concepts. By pushing the boundaries of what is fiction and what is real, The View of the Free People provides a story of dreamtime and imagination rendered with ink, acrylic, watercolour, photography and flora.

LIAM MADSEN

During the consumption of a meal a person's senses are activated through the taste, smell, sound, feel and visual appearance of the food. By documenting the meals after completion, through the photogram process, the artist is left with only abstracted visual clues to the dishes he has consumed. In this work the artist tests his memory by removing and distorting his various sensory memories as he is asked to recall the dish, which he has consumed.
