Earth Shadow: Rising

The sun never really sets, we just leave it behind us as the spinning of our planet carries us eastward and into the earth’s shadow. As we approach that shadow it appears as a broad arc of dark sky rising slowly above the eastern horizon that is accompanied by a sky tinted with shifting hues of amber, pink, violet and blue. Clouds drifting by hold on to the last glowing rays of the sun but they too succumb to the shadow.Earth Shadow: Rising are images from an ongoing project to capture our passage from day to night.

Transformations; Reflections of Ash Island

In order to take hold of the future, we must first pay due respect to the past.

During Autumn this year, I spent weekly session on Ash Island immersing myself in the landscape.

By sketching, photographing, journalling and meditating in this tranquil environment, I came to know this place and its inhabitants, both present and past. My research led me to the work of The Scott Sisters who resided on Ash Island during the 19th Century and documented the unique plant and insect species of the wetlands. My aim has been to pay homage to these extraordinary women whilst remaining faithful to my own vision in interpreting this sublime landscape. Transformation- Reflections of Ash Island is the culmination of hours of study and experimentation in attempting to adequately represent the beauty that is Ash Island.

The Human Animal

I grew up in a household full of pet animals, watching children’s shows where anthropomorphic animals were the feature characters. I have always been fascinated by the fact that humans are technically an animal, yet we are so far removed from animals in general. I have been exploring the idea that one feature of being human is the need for accessorization or augmentation in order to be an individual different from the rest of the human race. I have done this either by adding animal features or masks as an accessory to humans, or human elements like clothing to animals.

I will create a large-scale page of the work Fahrenheit 451 from fabric letters sewn in the Gallery. The audience will be encouraged to move the letters around to create new words/sentences.

Laura Jefferson

In my residency I hope to create an interactive sculpture and ceramic studio that I will use to continue my honours research and get started on work for my next exhibition.

Lynda Lee Lewis

I propose to paint the walls of the media space in my foundational motif, geometric monochrome shapes, creating a hypnotic, contemplative space. I will also replicate these patterns and incorporate paint pouring in a 3D geometric object, a large globe like cube, to sit within the space.

Willow Morgaine

I propose to create wax works using silicon moulds, then hand carve them.

Nick Pont

The Strangers Cave is a place for people to interact with the endless painting of Nick Pont; visitors to the cave are encouraged to sit for portraits, have campfire meetings and collaborate with the artist.

Mary Vangils

Viewers are invited to observe the development of new works on paper and canvas as well as to become a part of the body of work by sitting for the artist in the gallery studio space.
