BACK TO THE FUTURE

The 2011 Watt Space Open Show

Curated by Abbey Cecil, Ashleigh Duncan and Fiona Heard

In a post-post-modern art world, are old and new ways of representation at odds with each other? Have they become bed-fellows? Or are questions of old and new struck irrelevant by an art scene that is a melting pot of themes, modes and material?

These are the questions posed by the curators of Back To The Future.

Students at the University of Newcastle are asked to think about where art has been, where it is going and the implications of this journey. New work from any discipline and any style will allow the participants to demonstrate their own thoughts on time and art’s place in it.

This year’s judging panel will consist of Newcastle-based artist Jane Lander, and Todd Fuller, Sydney-based artist and a recent graduate from the National Art School.
