How to apply - Newcastle
Follow the steps below to apply for a place in the Gifted and Talented Program:
- Students receive advice from Schools about courses that are on offer, or can check the Gifted and Talented program website or the Merewether High School website.
- Students complete an Expression of Interest Form and nominate courses. Download a form from this website or contact Merewether High School.
- Students submit an Expression of Interest form and their last school report to Merewether High School with a signature from their school principal confirming that their work is of a high calibre.
- Students attend an interview at Merewether High School with the Principal of Merewether High School, a University of Newcastle representative, and the Executive Officer of the program (the interview is formal and all students are required to wear school uniform).
- Students present a portfolio or CV representing their learning and interests outside school, and any relevant work experience such as their School to Work log book. Sample interview questions might include:
- Why are you interested in this course?
- What career expectations do you have?
- How will you manage the extra time this course requires and maintain the high standards for the School Certificate or the Higher School Certificate?
- Why are you interested in this course?
- Merewether High School notifies individual students of the outcome of their Expression of Interest and, if selected, of class details.
- Students complete the University's "non-award program application form" provided by their lecturer at their first class. This form enables the University to set up the systems that will support access to e-learning technologies and libraries.
