Staff Research Support Schemes

The Faculty of Science and Information Technology offers a broad range of research support schemes to encourage and foster research for academic staff.The Faculty Research & Research Training Committee (FRRTC) is responsible for managing the research support schemes listed below.

PVC Conference Assistance Scheme

Funding support for academics to attend 'International Conferences'. Academics may apply for up to $2000 per year.

Early Career Academic (ECA) Program

Outlines the Faculty definition of an ECA and the eligibility criteria for ECA funding.

Early Career Academic (PhD Holder) Research Plan

 

ECAs must submit a three (3) year Research Plan to the FRRTC in order to access ECA funds.

Early Career Academic (PhD Holder) Networking/Conference Grant

Funding support for ECAs to attend conferences, visit research institutes or undertake training courses in improving research skills.

Funding support to provide ECAs relief from teaching duties for a specific period/semester.

Funding support to provide ECA PhD candidates relief from teaching duties to aid in the completion of their PhD thesis for examination.

Funding support for new academic staff (within 12 months of appointment) to assist in establishing their research at the University of Newcastle.

Senior Academic Grant Reviews for ARC & NHMRC

Provides an opportunity for academic staff to meet with experienced senior grant reviewers who will examine their draft external ARC & NHMRC applications and provide verbal and/or written feedback.

Calls for expression of interest to meet with a senior reviewer/s are made via email to all academic staff in September each year.

Strategic Initiative Research (SIRF)  Scheme

Funding support to facilitate opportunities for Schools/Disciplines to develop and drive strategic initiatives directed at improving research quantum in the faculty.

Strategic Small Grants Scheme

Provides funding suppport to assist researchers in developing a new research area (i.e. pilot data) or enhancing an existing project competitive for external funding.

Early Career Researcher (ECR) Visiting Fellowship Grants Scheme

Funding support for travel & accommodation to recruit ECRs to visit the Faculty who may potentially apply for an ARC-DECRA through the University of Newcastle in 2014 or 2015.

Visiting Fellowship Grants Scheme

Provides funding support for travel & accommodation for a senior academic of high professional standing from outside Newcastle who can contribute to a Faculty Research Group/Centre, in terms of grant development, publications and research focus.
